Record blueberry exports exceeding US$2.27 billion and a 57% production increase demonstrate Peru’s sustained leadership in the global blueberry market. Peru has reached a historic milestone by becoming the world’s top exporter of blueberries. By the end of 2024, the country recorded exports worth over US$2.27 billion, with a total volume of 326,000 tons—a 57% increase compared to 2023. Notably, more than 11% of these exports were organic, catering to a growing international demand for sustainable produce.
Despite a decline in volume from other suppliers such as Mexico and Colombia in 2023, reduced supply on the global stage contributed to a 23% rise in the value of Peruvian exports. Average blueberry prices have also surged—from US$4.6 per kilogram in 2022 to over US$8.5 per kilogram in the latter half of 2023, peaking at US$8.9 per kilogram in January 2024.
Thanks to favorable conditions along both the coast and highlands, Peru is able to supply high-quality blueberries year-round, even outside the peak harvest periods of other major producers like Chile and the United States. The majority of exports are directed to the United States (55%), followed by the Netherlands (21%) and Hong Kong (9%), with further growth expected in markets such as India, Taiwan, Singapore, Belgium, France, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
